Why down makes the best doonas.
The single most important decision you make is what filling should be inside your doona. This will greatly affect how your doona feels and even how it will make you sleep.
If you imagine your perfect doona to be soft, fluffy and ultra luxurious, chances are that you are imagining a down doona.
Down comes from duck or geese and should not be confused with feathers. Down is perfectly engineered by nature to store warmth and be super breathable.
The best way of determining the quality of down is to look at fill power. Fill power is simply a measurement of how much space one ounce of down fills. Higher fill power (700+) will be fluffier, lighter and more luxurious than lower fill power. Most brands make it hard to find (not us though), but it is worth searching for when comparing down doonas.
Another important measure is the percentage of down in the filling. All down doonas will have a certain amount of feathers to add bulk. However, if there is not enough down (less than 80%), the filling may be:
- Prickly from the feathers
- Unnecessarily heavy (read not as fluffy)
- Not long lasting (as the feather quills can crush overtime and lose their loft)
- Not as warm
- Not as breathable.
Common myths about down and why they're wrong.
Bad for Allergies.
Many people claim they are allergic to down.
While there is a real known allergy, it is extremely rare. Almost every person that exhibits allergic reactions to down are not reacting to the down itself, but to unclean down. Our down is rated as exceptionally clean.
Down Smells.
As our down is cleaned to such a high standard, there is almost no scent. Don't just take our word for it, our customers say so too:

Down is hard to clean.
Your Bonny Doona is pretty low maintenance. It mostly wants to hug you and be hugged back.
However, for minor spills etc. a simple spot clean will suffice.
For bigger stains, machine wash cold with mild detergent, and include an extra rinse cycle. Finally, Tumble Dry low until thoroughly dry. Do not dry clean.
If your doona does not move in the washer or dryer, professionally launder.
Buy one size bigger than your bed. Trust Us.
We always recommend going one size larger than your bed.
For instance, if you have a queen bed, buy a king doona. Why? This looks so much better on your bed and is so much more comfortable - especially if you’re sharing the doona with someone else (no one likes a doona hog).
If you already have existing sheets (doona covers), you may want to stick to your current sizing, and that's ok too. We get it, bedding can be expensive.
Finally, if you have a King Single, please purchase a double doona. If you have bunks, you may prefer a single doona as it can look a bit neater.
